Misty in Roots Live
2011-09-29

Misty in Roots Live THIS Friday 30th September 2011 @ The Picket Liverpool, from 7.30PM Africa Oye are delighted to announce a performance by one of the pioneers of UK Reggae Music, the legendary Misty in Roots. With a career spanning four decades, Misty in Roots are one of England’s finest Roots Reggae groups. Along with Steel Pulse and Aswad, the band was one of the most powerful live reggae acts to emerge from 1970s London and noted for their powerful roots reggae sound and uncompromising lyrical vibrations. They became the major force in Rock Against Racism, playing more concerts than any other band in the movement. This opened up a whole new audience for the band who quickly developed a very strong cross over audience, playing with acts such as Tom Robinson Band and Elvis Costello. Strangely omitted from the BBC’s recent ‘Reggae Britannia’ documentary John Peel's favourite Reggae Band will be coming to Liverpool where we will give them the respect they are truly due! Tickets £10 in advance (£15 on the door subject to availability) On sale via ticketweb 0844 477 100 www.ticketweb.co.uk in person from Dr Hermans Bold Street and Raggas on Smithdown Road/Lark Lane Liverpool. Don't forget RAGGAS restaurant will be serving a Caribbean BBQ

Description: Sarabeth was born to a psychiatrist and a psychologist in Miami, but grew up in New York. She was a latecomer to music, her first calling being acting. However, after a few years in Hollywood, her singing and songwriting was encouraged by people on the music scene she fell in with. She first made an impression singing backing vocals on Smog’s 2003 album ‘Supper’ and then in the film ‘Dig!’, where she sings a song she had just written called ‘Something For You’. The Brian Jonestown Massacre went on to cover the song (retitled ‘Seer’), but Sarabeth’s own version became her debut single, on Sonic Cathedral, back in February 2007. Sarabeth Tucek releases her second album, ‘Get Well Soon’, via Sonic Cathedral Recordings on April 4. It will be available on limited-edition heavyweight vinyl, CD and as a download.

youth action and youth in action agenda
2011-03-02

OBJECTIVES AND PRIORITIES Youth in Action aims to respond at European level to the needs of young people from adolescence to adulthood via several specific objectives and priorities. PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES Promotion and development of young people's active citizenship Solidarity and social cohesion Development and promotion of quality support systems and Europe-wide co-operation SPECIFIC PROGRAMME PRIORITIES European Citizenship Participation of young people Intercultural dialogue Inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities NEW PRIORITIES FOR 2011 We have a number of new Annual Priorities for the overall YIA Programme in 2011, as well as the possibility for applications to be recognised for their relevance to national, regional or local youth policies in the UK. Annual priorities European Year of Volunteering Youth unemployment Inclusive growth Global environment challenges and climate change Creativity and entrepreneurship EU-China Year of Youth (for Action 2 and sub-Action 3.2 only) An application that supports one or more of these Annual Priorities and demonstrates this clearly in their application will gain extra points at the quality assessment stage. Relevance to UK youth public policy No specific UK National Priorities have been set for 2011. From 2011, however, it is possible to gain extra points by evidencing a clear link between your project idea and a relevant UK youth-related public policy or strategy, whether at national, regional or local level. This might be a UK government policy (e.g. a link to the Big Society agenda), a policy area specific to one of the UK nations, or a local government initiative. Examples of this might be: A project supporting the Scottish Government’s healthy living objectives, as set out in Healthy Eating, Active Living: an action plan to improve diet, increase physical activity and tackle obesity (2008-2011) http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2008/06/20155902/0 A project exploring young people’s attitudes to alcohol and raising awareness about the risks of its misuse, as detailed in the Young People’s Drinking Action Plan, which was issued as a complement to the New Strategic Direction for Alcohol and Drugs 2006-2011 in Northern Ireland http://www.dhsspsni.gov.uk/dhs74109_web_pdf.pdf A project linked to the work of Sport England Strategy 2008-11 to increase participation in sport, and volunteering in sport, (amongst other aims) as part of the Olympic Legacy target http://www.sportengland.org/search.aspx?query=Sport+England+Strategy A project working with young people as a means of preventing offending or reducing re-offending, as highlighted in the Welsh Assembly Government’s All Wales Youth Offending Strategy (2009-2011) http://wales.gov.uk/dsjlg/publications/commmunitysafety/youthoffendingstrategy/strategye?lang=en In order to be awarded the extra points available for a project’s relevance to UK youth public policy, your application should clearly include verifiable evidence of each policy area you reference, e.g. the relevant Northern Ireland, Welsh, Scottish or English government agency web address and/or a link to the relevant policy document. Each specific national policy area should then be reflected in the nature and design of your project. Please note that such extra points, for relevance to UK youth public policy areas, are not available for Action 5.1 applications, which are only assessed in relation to their relevance to EU policy objectives. IMPORTANT FEATURES The following features of the Youth in Action Programme are important. Non-formal learning Youthpass Visibility of the Youth in Action Programme Dissemination and exploitation of results Anti-discrimination Equality between men and women Protection and safety of participants Multilingualism
